A baby was strapped to my back while the other crawled in the playpen. I spent 12 hours days, for months, sanding and stripping wallpaper and with just one child. Ha! The house was getting closer to finishing, but we were a long distance to go. To furnish the home would be a huge effort with regards to budget and time. Also, I had go to my favorite stores. In order to stay within my budget, I started going to estate sales with my three sons to find diamonds in the rough. Each week we would spend between Thursday and Saturday in garage sales and estate sales purchasing old and brand new furniture. After that, I painted and sanded the driveway throughout the week. The look was similar to it... This is where my passion for restoration of furniture started. Even though the house had been equipped, I couldn't stop. There was an area on the market to sell things. My collection eventually grew so large that the room I had was no longer adequate. Open houses were held at my residence where 1 000 people could visit during a weekend. they could purchase anything on the ground level. It was here that my business Growing Days was born. Growing Days wasn't just a thriving business but as well my family. The balance was between starting a business and being a mother. Growing Days just fit. My daughter Nora became our fourth daughter. I loved where my business was heading but I needed a break. I got away from furniture that was vintage to enjoy more quality time with my family. This was precisely what I needed at the time. After a couple of months, my phone started to ring. They asked for my assistance in decorating and home renovations. They were mostly people who came to my open home to purchase furniture. In the course of my work, I added clients each day. However, it didn't take long before I had multiple clients and ran an extremely successful business of home renovation. If you had told me that my venture would end up being the premise for a DIY Network show, I would probably have laughed. It's fun to reflect on it.
